A DIY Home Devotional Kit

Some of you were at the service last Sunday and got one of my home worship kits. If you did not, gather a chalice, candle, bell, two stones, and some bubbles and here is the devotional order of service suggestion I included:

While We Are Together & Yet Apart… Ring Your Bell & Bring Your Attention to Both Sound & Silence. Be Called Into This Moment. Light Your Tea Light & Place It Into Your Chalice CHALICELIGHTING Each morning we must hold out the chalice of our being to receive, to carry, and to give back.(Dag Hammarskjöld) INVOCATION Spirit of Life, come unto me. Sing in my heart all the stirrings of compassion. Blow in the wind, rise in the sea; Move in the hand giving life the shape of justice. Roots hold me close; wings set me free; Spirit of Life, come to me, come to me. (Carolyn McDade) AFFIRMATION Love is the spirit of our congregation, And service is its law. This is our great covenant: To dwell together in peace, to seek the truth in love, And to help one another. (James Vila Blake) Hold One Stone & Bring to Mind Your Concerns Hold the Other & Bring to Mind Your Joys: A stone of joy ripples through our entire community; a stone of sorrow sinks into the deep well of compassion we strive to be. THOUGHT When despair for the world grows in me and I wake in the night at the least sound in the night at the least sound in fear of what my life and my children’s lives may be, I go and lie down where the wood drake rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds. I come into the peace of wild things who do not tax their lives with forethought of grief. I come into the presence of still water. And I feel above me the day-blind stars waiting with their light. For a time I rest in the grace of the world, and am free. (Wendell Berry) MEDITATION When I breathe in, I’ll breathe in peace. When I breathe out, I’ll breathe out love.(Sarah Dan Jones) Blow Bubbles of Mindfulness & Watch Until Each One Completely Disappears BENEDICTION May I (you/we) be filled with loving kindness. May I (you/we) be well. May I (you/we) be peaceful and at ease. May I (you/we) be whole. (Buddhist Blessing) EXTINGUISHING I extinguish this flame but not the light of truth, the warmth of community or the fire of commitment. These we carry in our hearts until we are together again. (Elizabeth Selle Jones) Be Blessed & Be a Blessing Until We Meet Again. Join Other UUs for Worship Sundays at 8 pm on www.questformeaning.org.
