Behavior Guidelines

In order to provide a safe and comfortable environment for people of all ages in our church community, we ask that the children attending our programs follow some basic guidelines for behavior. Please review these with your children. The Religious Education Director will have an understanding for you to sign.

Worship and Class Time

Most Sundays our families enter the sanctuary together to participate in the beginning of the service. The children are welcome to sit with family or friends, but should be encouraged to respect the space of those worshipping around them. Once they have chosen a place to sit, they need to remain there, sit (not stand on) the chairs, and use a whispering voice.

After the "Children's Space", they will be escorted by the DRE and their teachers to their classrooms. If you suspect that your child might have difficulty separating from you, please let the DRE know beforehand so she may be of help.

Parents of little ones attending class for the first time are welcome to join in class. During class time, the children are expected to participate, follow the directions of their teachers, and respect the space and feelings of their classmates. Young children who are having difficulty with this will be asked to take a "time-out" within the classroom.

Older children will be asked to spend some time with the DRE or join their parents. Because we have only a brief hour each Sunday to share in religious education, we want it to be as rewarding and enjoyable as possible for everyone.

Coffee Hour

The children are dismissed from their classes at 12:10 PM. Please remember to pick up the children from the nursery, preschool, and primary at that time. All children are then welcome to help themselves to treats on the patio. However, no food is permitted in the RE wing, unless parents are present and a thorough cleanup is done afterwards. Noisy play and running must be done outside only! The children are encouraged to use the playground, but little ones must be supervised.

No children will be allowed on the platform or near the microphones. The piano and organ are also off limits, unless permission is given by the Music Director. Remember, parents are responsible for the behavior of their children during Coffee Hour. If you must attend a meeting, please arrange for a responsible teen or adult to watch your child.

Parent Participation

We strive to offer the highest quality Religious Education program possible to the children of our church by carefully selecting curriculum resources, delivering meaningful worship experiences, and providing a nurturing environment for our children as they develop spiritually and emotionally. We do this through a cooperative effort in which we all share the responsibilities and work together toward this common goal.

Each family with children participating in the Religious Education Program is expected to assist with the program during the year. Various aspects of the program are listed on these webpages. Please indicate your preferences for participation, so that we can effectively plan our year's activities. Thank yon in advance for your support.
